Professor Andrew Hobson

Professor Andy Hobson is Head of the Education Research Centre. He was previously Research Professor in Education at Sheffield Hallam University and, before that, Associate Professor in Teacher and School Development at the University of Nottingham. He is a trained secondary teacher (11-18), gained his PhD from the University of Leeds, and also worked as a Senior Research Officer at the National Foundation for Educational Research.

Andy’s research focuses on the experiences of and support for the professional learning and development of teachers, especially trainee, newly and recently qualified teachers. He has particular interests in teacher wellbeing and mentoring. He has published widely, led a number of significant research and evaluation projects, and supervises doctoral students in these areas. He is Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Mentoring and Coaching in Education.

My research interests

My research focuses on the experiences of and support for the professional learning and development of teachers, especially trainee, newly and recently qualified teachers. I have particular interests in teacher mentoring and wellbeing, and I am editor of the International Journal of Mentoring and Coaching in Education.

Biography

After training as a secondary (11-18) teacher I began my working life as a teacher of social sciences in the secondary and further education sectors. I then completed a PhD at the University of Leeds and have been subsequently employed as a Senior Research Officer at the National Foundation for Educational Research, Lecturer in Educational Research Methods at the University of Leeds, Associate Professor in Teacher and School Development at the University of Nottingham, and Research Professor in Education and Director of Academic Research at the Sheffield Institute of Education, Sheffield Hallam University. I took up my current post as Professor of Teacher Learning and Development and Head of Education Research Centre at the 国产探花 in January 2014.
